  1. Get 500 gm Fish
  2. Take 1/2 cup Coconut
  3. Take 1/2 cup Small onion chopped

  6. Prepare 1 tsp Tamarind pulp big lemon size
  7. Get 2 tsp red chilli powder
  8. Prepare 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  10. Get 1 tsp Methi(fenugreek) seeds
  11. Get 1 tsp jeera(cumin) seeds
  12. Make ready As needed Oil
  13. Get to taste salt
  14. Take 2 tsp coriander leaves
  15. Take 2 tsp curry leaves

I learned this recipe from my mother-in-law, who is a master in cooking this recipe. Try this curry with plain steamed rice–you'll love it. Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary. Serve the curry with rice in warmed serving bowls, sprinkled with toasted desiccated coconut, if using.

Steps to make Fish curry:
  1. Grind coconut, jeera and small onions(4no) into smooth paste and keep aside.
  2. Make tamarind juice by adding water with the pulp and keep aside.
  3. Add oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, methi seeds, curry leaves, chopped small onion, garlic cloves, green chillies. Saute well.
  4. Now add turmeric powder, chilli powder, tamarind juice and smooth coconut paste. Add salt and saute well.
  5. Let the mixture boil and then spread the fishes. Cover the mixture and keep in simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  6. Finally add coriander leaves and serve hot.

This simple curry is a family favourite at our house, and is a great dish to cook if your own family is a little apprehensive about fish. Choose a mild fish, and the bold flavours of the curry, combined with the creaminess of the coconut milk, are bound to win over even the most skeptical eaters. It really doesn't get easier than this. All you need is a good fish, curry powder and a few other pantry staples like oil, salt, pepper, etc. I'd love to say that the secret to this curry is my homemade curry powder, but I don't want to scare you away.
