Overlap one third of the noodles atop the sauce to cover the pan bottom. Spread all the cooked sausage over the noodles and spoon over another cup of sauce. Lay down the second third of noodles. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook and crumble beef and sausage until no longer pink; drain.

Steps to make Lasagna:
  1. Preheat oven to 425
  2. In large bowl combine ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, 1/4 cup parmesan eggs and basil. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl combine spaghetti sauce, water and ground beef. Mix well.
  4. In 9x13 pan spread 1 1/2 cups meat sauce, then layer 1/3 Lasagna noodles, then layer 1/2 the cheese mixture, then layer 1/3 remaining meat sauce. Repeat layers. Top with rest of noodles and meat sauce.
  5. Top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan.
  6. Double wrap tightly with foil.
  7. Bake for 60 minutes.

Cook the noodles "al dente" so they'll still have quite a bite to them. When they're finished cooking, drain, rinse with cool water, and lay the noodles flat on a sheet of aluminum foil. Lasagna noodles are long, flat noodles with two wavy edges, perfect for placing in a casserole dish and layering with cheese and sauce. However you make lasagna, there is one rule you should always follow: Start with sauce. Whether you are using a baking dish or a skillet, there needs to be an even layer of sauce covering the entire bottom of the pan before any of the other ingredients are added.
